"Instrument"

We were to find a place on campus where sound was an important aspect in the area and how to mimic the sounds you hear in those spaces. I studied Torgersen "Bridge" between Torgersen Hall and Newman Library.

I found that sound in that space was very distinct when close to you, but, taken away because of the paneling on the walls so that it doesn't distract you. The instrument that could mimic this needed to have some kind of rhythm and almost do the opposite of an instrument, create the sound then take it way rather than it echoing and becoming louder. I took apart a metronome to see what made it tick to the certain rhythms and speeds and incorporated that into my idea.

The instrument was planned to have some mechanical piece that helps it to swing like a pendulum by some force like a metronome and hit the "cups" to make the sound. The interior of the instrument would be paneled much like an auditorium to make the sound less distinct just like Torgersen.
