Building from a composition that we had drawn seemed like it would be an easy task... So, I thought I would build it exactly the way it appeared.
The first study model just looked like separate objects placed together and they didn't combine into one, fluent model.
I started looking at Richard Serra's work because I loved his technique and thought it could add something to my project. The way I view his work makes me feel like there is this continuous line or connection through the work, and that's what I wanted in mine. I remodeled some of his work and knew from there that I wanted to incorporate those ideas into my project.
My second study model was on an 8X11" sheet of paper and combined many of the flowing ideas of Serra's with important pieces of my composition and things I wanted to incorporate.
I basically enlarged my second model to become the final model to fit on an 18X24" piece of paper. This way you could see more details and feel like you are really moving through the whole project with the change in elevation and movement through the different curves and spaces made. I learned that the slightest bend of a piece of paper can change the whole feel of the model and the way your eyes moves through it.
